Fabrication

Stainless steel is transformed into high end products. Fabrication involves utilizing a variety of metalworking techniques, whether done by hand or using modern metalworking equipment. Stainless steel sheets are cut, folded, machined, punched, sheared, stamped, welded, and more, to create customized products according to customer specifications. The majority of fabrication work takes place in the stainless workshop. The final product is either shipped as a fully assembled item or as individual pieces ready for on-site assembly.

Stainless Steel For Commercial Kitchens

Stainless steel used in commercial kitchens can vary in composition, with different amounts of elements such as chromium, manganese, silicon, carbon, nickel, and molybdenum. The specific mix of these elements in stainless steel determines its properties, such as strength and shine. Chromium and nickel are particularly important in commercial kitchens as they determine the stainless steel's resistance to corrosion and rust.

Common Grades Of Stainless Steel

GOOD: 400 Series Stainless Steel

  • Characteristics: can rust

  • Use: Suitable for budget-conscious options such as economy sinks and tables where corrosion resistance is not a top priority.

BETTER: 304 Stainless Steel

  • Characteristics: Susceptible to rust if exposed to corrosive substances

  • Use: Suitable for most food contact surfaces, but prolonged exposure to salts and corrosives can result in rust and/or pitting. It is commonly used in commercial kitchens where moderate corrosion resistance is required.

BEST: 316 Stainless Steel

  • Characteristics: Highly resistant to corrosion

  • Use: More suitable for meat products and foods with high salt content, as well as harsh environments with exposure to corrosive substances. It is commonly used in commercial kitchens where the highest level of corrosion resistance is needed, such as in marine environments or food processing areas.
